Factory specs
Built-in factory alignment specs: coming soon
A later version of Rim Reader will look up your vehicle’s factory alignment specs for you: toe, camber, cross camber, caster and thrust limits for your year, make, model and trim, with no typing.
Why not now? Factory alignment data is compiled by specialist companies and licensed to apps, and a licence costs thousands of dollars a year, plus a fee for each vehicle looked up and a server to deliver it. That is a significant investment for a new app. We want to see how drivers and mechanics take to Rim Reader first. If the app finds its users, we plan to add them.
Until then
- Type in your vehicle’s specs from its service information or a shop’s alignment printout, as a preferred value with a tolerance, or as a minimum and maximum. Owner’s manuals usually don’t list them.
- Or use the generic targets for a typical street car. They are deliberately tighter than most factory tolerances, they were checked against published factory figures for common cars, and the app always labels them as generic, never as your car’s specs. Where your vehicle’s own specs differ, use those.
- Scanning the VIN fills in the year, make and model today. It identifies the vehicle; it doesn’t give alignment specs.
